10 week Songwriting Courses for kids and adults with Andrea Monro!

A resident of St. John's, Newfoundland, Andrea has been performing locally for eight years. As an award winning singer /songwriter she has shared the stage with such great Canadian performers as Penny Lang, Rik Emmet and Ron Hynes. She has been a guest two years in a row on CBC's singer/songwriter concert series and also worked with the Songwriters Association of Canada as a producer for the St. John’s Bluebird North Concert Series which showcases songwriters and their songs.

If you are interested in writing songs but don’t know where to start, or you’ve been writing for awhile and want help taking your writing to the next level, this is the class for you!  Songwriting award winning Instructor Andrea Monro will guide students through the key components of successful songwriting, including song structure and design, finding ideas, creative process and, above all else, believing in your writing!!!  These classes will provide students with a supportive and nurturing creative environment in which they will have the opportunity to share ideas and grow as songwriters.  Class emphasis will be on peer feedback and support and all songwriting students will have opportunities to perform their songs if they so desire.

  Wood Shed Percussion Ensemble with Paul Murphy

Ladies and gentleman! Boys and girls! Musicians of all ages! Let’s get in the Groove! Starting this fall Rock City is introducing the Wood Shed Percussion Ensemble and is wide open for students of all ages and skill level. Play guitar? Sing? Bass? Drums? Keys? Doesn’t matter everyone needs rhythm and everyone is welcome.

This group has a focus in rhythm, ensemble playing, musicianship and improvisation, all of which are keystones for musical development. Our instruments will be percussion based, including anything that thumps, bangs, clangs, or dings. The music will be varied and influenced by world cultures and music such as Africa, India, Latin America, Ireland, North American and the like. In addition there will be a LIVE performance to showcase the accomplishments and musical integrity of these aspiring and developing musicians.....All hands get bragging rights!  My advice is to sign up! Check ego’s and nerves at the door & don’t miss the groove anymore!  Remember...  ‘Play it like you mean it!’
